Reflections from Northern Nicaragua: Johny

a farmer in his corn field

Johny began being part of the Self-Help International agricultural program in 2024. On the experimental plot where he planted 4 pounds of INTA-Nutrader corn seed he had a great yield. This inspired him to keep planting. Johny said, “I made an experiment with my corn because according to Nelson, the SHI agronomist, this corn is high in protein and other nutrients. I had been suffering from severe malnutrition
since I was a child, so I started eating only INTA-Nutrader corn products. After a few months I noticed the difference in my weight, having gained more than 4 kilograms. This proved to me that the corn does have the protein, vitamins and minerals that it is supposed to, so I will continue consuming it.” Although he plants other varieties of corn, INTA-Nutrader will always be used for feeding his family members.
