Reflections from Northern Nicaragua: Miguel

A famer standing in his field

Miguel planted 25 pounds of INTA-Nutrader high-protein seed corn obtained from Self-Help International (SHI) in double rows with a distance of 35 inches between rows. His yield was excellent. He harvested 4,000 pounds of corn, of which he sold 1,500 pounds. With the money he earned he was able to buy a pump sprayer. The remaining money was used for necessary household items. Miguel says that it would be great to involve his three married children in the agricultural program promoted by SHI. He would like to become the first certified seed corn producer in the Condega region and be able to supply high-quality seed to the other farmers in his community.
