Forty-seven young girls from five rural communities in Ghana’s Ashanti Region just reached a significant milestone: they graduated from Self-Help International’s 2023 Teen Girls Club Program. These girls, from Bedabour, Timeabu, Kukubuso, Beposo, and Nkontomire, stood proud and hopeful, ready to take on the world with newfound confidence and skills.

The Teen Girls Club, launched by SHI in 2016, has been a lifeline for many girls, like 15-year-old Fridaus. When she first joined the program, she was shy and uncertain about her future. But through the club’s workshops on gender equality, literacy, and vocational skills, she found her voice and gained the courage to chase her dream of becoming a teacher. “When I first joined, I was afraid to speak up,” Fridaus said. “But now, I believe in myself.”

This transformation wasn’t just personal—it echoed throughout their communities. Parents noticed how their daughters began to speak confidently, make informed decisions, and support one another. The girls had formed a sisterhood, united by their shared growth and determination to succeed.

On graduation day, the air was thick with joy as the girls celebrated their achievements. Each received a certificate, a symbol of not just the knowledge they had gained but also their belief in their potential. Music, dance, and heartfelt speeches marked the occasion, but it was the girls’ pride and excitement that truly stole the show.

These 47 graduates are now role models for their peers, proving that with the right support and opportunities, there are no limits to what they can achieve. The Self-Help International Teen Girls Club Program has not only changed their lives but has also planted seeds of change that will grow for generations to come.
