For the past 15 years, Vivian has been a dedicated client of Self-Help International’s (SHI) Micro-Credit Program. Through SHI’s support, she has gained invaluable knowledge in poultry keeping, snail farming, rabbit farming, and managing various businesses. However, it was pig farming that resonated most with her aspirations.
Starting with just one pig, Vivian, alongside her son Ernest, worked tirelessly to grow their farm in Bedabour, located in Ghana’s Ashanti Region. In just a year, their efforts paid off—her pigsty now boasts an impressive 45 pigs. This rapid growth is a testament to her commitment, hard work, and the business skills she acquired through SHI’s training programs.
Vivian’s dedication and entrepreneurial spirit were recognized on a grand scale during the 2024 Farmers’ Day celebration, where she was awarded Best Farmer in Livestock. This prestigious award is a reflection of her perseverance and the transformative impact of SHI’s intervention in her life.
“I am so grateful to Self-Help International,” Vivian shares with a smile. “Without their support and training, I wouldn’t be where I am today. “They taught me, supported me, and gave me the confidence to grow. Now, my son and I are not just farming—we’re building a future.”
Today, Vivian and Ernest are not just building a thriving business—they are inspiring others in their community to embrace modern farming practices. Their story is a shining example of how access to training and financial support can change lives and create lasting economic empowerment.
Vivian’s journey from a single pig to an award-winning farm is proof that with the right support, determination, and vision, small beginnings can lead to extraordinary success.
